Elizabeth (Beth) Bryan — but whatever you do, don’t call her Liz. That earns a withering glare or — worse — the frozen shoulder.
A relatively new member of Probus, she has nevertheless joined the fray with enviable velocity and made firm friends in short order.
She is closely involved with Iziko Museum and arrived in our midst via the friendly persuasion of Vice President Annette Spykerman. The Hiking Groups she has joined have been particularly good 'hooks to hang new friendships on' - to borrow a phrase from Annette's poem to JP
Beth has also become deeply entangled in the Club’s new website — urging us to use it as a proper tool to attract and engage members like herself. Her grammar eagle-eye has already rapped the Webmaster’s knuckles (gently) more than once — punctuation matters, people — and he’s all the better for it.
On a quieter, more personal note she and Tony discovered a profound bond: they each raised disabled sons of similar age — boys who attended the same schools, endured deep trauma, and died only a few years apart.
Beth brings with her not just competence and enthusiasm — but courage, empathy, and a lived understanding of resilience that deepens our Club’s humanity.
