Dr Eric Sydenham is a Cape-Town based scientist with Lasec, where he works in the world of laboratory technology, analytical instrumentation and scientific problem-solving. He combines an engineer’s precision with a practical curiosity for how things really work — and enjoys demystifying kit that most of us would be afraid to switch on.
Eric’s other life is spent outside: he is a very active member of the Trails Club, where a weekend without some steep contour path would be considered wasted. Known for his dry wit, calm competence on rough terrain and unnerving ability to produce the right bit of mountain trivia at exactly the right moment, Eric is equally at home checking calibration curves as he is navigating the Back Table in cloud.
